Saab (SAAB) Q3 Orders Triple to 65.8B SEK on Ukraine Gripen Deal
Swedish defense company Saab (SAAB) reported third-quarter earnings and revenue exceeding expectations, driven by a substantial rise in new orders. The company recorded new orders worth 65.8 billion Swedish kronor ($6.6 billion), more than tripling from 20.9 billion kronor a year earlier and surpassing analyst estimates of 56.4 billion kronor. Third-quarter sales reached 20.6 billion kronor, beating forecasts of 20 billion kronor, while earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) totaled 1.95 billion kronor, above predictions of 1.9 billion kronor. The surge in orders was fueled by a 24.6 billion kronor contract signed in June to deliver 16 Gripen E fighter jets to Ukraine, with deliveries planned for 2029-2030. Additional significant contracts included a 10.1 billion kronor order for the GlobalEye military surveillance aircraft from a Middle Eastern customer and an 8.7 billion kronor order for systems supporting German frigates. CEO Micael Johansson highlighted growing customer demand reflected in major contract awards across Saab's product lines. This strong order intake reflects a broader trend of increased defense spending commitments by European governments reacting to geopolitical tensions. The elevated order book and growing profitability mark a positive operational performance for Saab, though recent stock performance has faced pressure as investors weigh current valuations against industry delivery capabilities. The large backlog and upcoming deliveries emphasize Saab's pivotal role in defense supply chains, directly impacting its revenue and long-term cash flow visibility.
