Vistra (VST) to Benefit from AI Power Demand Surge by 2027
Goldman Sachs forecasts that U.S. data center power demand will double from 31 gigawatts (GW) in 2025 to 66 gigawatts (GW) by 2027. This increase in energy consumption is expected to favor merchant power producers like Vistra (NYSE: VST), which sells electricity in competitive wholesale markets. Vistra has secured major long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), including a 20-year deal with Amazon Web Services for 1,200 megawatts (MW) and another with Meta Platforms for 2,609 MW. The growing artificial intelligence sector may significantly enhance Vistra's market opportunities, potentially impacting energy prices positively for investors.
