Hybe Shares Surge 10% on BTS Tour Earnings Outlook
Shares of Hybe soared 10% on Friday following optimistic forecasts for its third-quarter earnings, largely due to the global concerts of its leading act, BTS. Investors are particularly encouraged by the prospects of the band's world tour, which is expected to significantly bolster the company's financial performance. Hybe is projected to report third-quarter revenue of 1.5 trillion won ($1.11 billion), marking a 106% increase from the previous year. The operating profit is forecasted at 172.2 billion won, driven by a sharp rise in concert revenues, which are expected to reach 717 billion won - nearly triple from last year. BTS' world tour, which includes 16 shows in North America and eight in Europe, has played a pivotal role in the company's earnings forecast. Attendance is anticipated to hit nearly 3 million, potentially setting a quarterly record for the company. The K-pop group's expanding global influence is further demonstrated by more than 70% of concert attendance coming from western markets for the first time. Despite challenges such as higher royalty payments and initial touring costs, Hybe is likely to sustain a double-digit operating margin due to the scale of BTS' tour. This development underlines Hybe's expanding international reach and the financial benefits of its diversified revenue streams, including merchandise and royalties. For investors, the strong earnings outlook from BTS' global concerts highlights the potential for significant revenue growth, making Hybe a noteworthy player in the entertainment industry.

This decline continued with a further drop of 16.31% on July 19. Analysts indicated that despite record revenue and operating profit, Hybe's operating margin at 11.8% fell short of expectations of 12.7% and 12.2%. The cause was attributed to increased artist-settlement costs from concert revenues, which surged 243.3% year-on-year, leading to lower profitability margins. Investors should note that while concert revenues are high, they result in lower margins, affecting overall profitability.
