Vape Deposit Proposal of £5 to Reduce Litter Concerns

Waste companies are proposing a £5 deposit on vapes to encourage proper disposal amid ongoing litter issues. Disposable vapes were banned a year ago, decreasing the number discarded weekly from 8.2 million to approximately 6 million, according to the Local Government Association (LGA). The Environmental Services Association (ESA) argues that a deposit would provide sufficient incentive for consumers to recycle vapes properly. However, some vape businesses express concern that such a scheme could drive consumers toward illicit markets. Industry leaders note that problems persist with thousands of discarded vapes still ending up in waste facilities weekly.
