Asos Issues Warning After Hackers Send Unauthorized Message
Asos, the online retailer, has alerted its customers to an 'unauthorized push notification' sent via its app which contained an external link. This message, sent on Tuesday morning, appeared to be from hackers attempting to extort the company by claiming they have compromised a Snowflake data instance. Asos quickly moved to restrict access and is working with advisors and authorities on the situation. Snowflake's investigation found no compromise of their platform. Asos informed customers that no payment-card information or account passwords appear to have been impacted. However, basic personal information, such as names and contact details, may have been exposed. Customers are advised to refrain from clicking on the link included in the notification and to update their passwords, especially if used on other sites. The National Cyber Security Centre advises turning on two-step verification for banking and email accounts for added security. This incident highlights the importance of ensuring data security and taking precautionary steps to protect online accounts. Investors in Asos may need to watch for any further developments that could affect the company's reputation or operations.
