India's Vulnerable Internet Infrastructure: 95% of Bandwidth at Risk

India's intercontinental submarine cables, mainly around Versova, Mumbai, account for 95% of the country's international bandwidth to Europe, Africa, and West Asia. Out of 18 submarine cables, at least 13 come ashore within six kilometers, creating a critical vulnerability due to geographic concentration. While traffic can be rerouted if cables are cut, even minor performance degradation could harm sectors like banking and cloud services, impacting the country's growing digital economy. This situation highlights India's dependency on limited infrastructure, with only about 3% of the world's submarine cables serving a country that consumes roughly 20% of global data.
