Hui Ka Yan, founder of Evergrande, has been sentenced to life in prison and his personal property has been confiscated. The Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court fined Hui's former companies a total of 15.82 billion yuan ($2.35 billion) for multiple crimes, including corporate bribery and falsifying records. Evergrande's stock market valuation fell by 99% before its removal from the Hong Kong exchange in August 2025.
