Meta (META) Plans AI Job Cuts, 8,000 Employees Affected

In May, Meta (META) planned to lay off about 10% of its workforce, approximately 8,000 employees, as part of its Project OT initiative aimed at using AI for operational transformation. Originally, a reduction of 20% was discussed, which could have equated to 16,000 job losses. However, this plan was scaled back due to concerns over the effectiveness of the AI technology, as it was noted that while AI usage among employees increased code generation by 220%, user-visible improvements only grew by 36%. Subsequently, Zuckerberg informed remaining staff that no other company-wide layoffs were expected for the remainder of the year, impacting Meta's workforce strategy.
